Chilton County proclaims Alabama Farm City Week; banquet planned Nov. 18

The Chilton County Commission unanimously approved a resolution proclaiming Nov. 21–27, 2025 as Alabama Farm City Week and recognized local Farm City activities planned this year.

Rhianna, co-chair of the county Farm City Committee, told commissioners she and Lucy Ellington of the extension office are co-chairs and summarized upcoming events. “We are getting ready for our farm city banquet, which is November 18 at 6PM. That will be held at Jeff State,” Rhianna said. She described student essay and poster contests conducted as part of Farm City’s educational outreach and said tickets are available through the committee and the chamber.

Alan Williams read the proclamation in full; the proclamation text included statewide agricultural economic figures stating that agriculture and related services generate over $77,300,000,000 annually in Alabama and account for over 270,000 jobs (approximately 10% of the state workforce). Williams praised Lucy Ellington’s local leadership during the reading.

Commissioner Hall moved to adopt the proclamation; Commissioner Billingsley seconded. The measure passed unanimously.

The Farm City banquet is scheduled for Nov. 18 at Jefferson State (referred to at the meeting as Jeff State). Committee leaders asked residents interested in tickets or participating in contests to contact the Farm City Committee or the chamber. No county funds for the banquet were announced at the meeting.
