Naming committee offers three names for new Tradition K‑8; board to pick at upcoming workshop

Latonya Green, the principal leading the naming committee, presented three names to the St. Lucie County School Board for the new K‑8 school to be built in the Tradition area: Heritage K‑8, Sunset Grove K‑8 and Tradition Lakes K‑8.
Green said the committee — which included parents, staff, students and community members and worked under school board policy 07/1950 — narrowed roughly 34 suggestions down to the three names presented. “Each name presented this evening represents our foundation, our growth, and our vision for what's ahead,” she told the board.
The committee also proposed school colors: crimson as the primary color and burnt orange as the secondary color; Green said the colors were chosen to “create balance, spark, heart and energy” for the school’s identity.
Green told board members the naming process will continue and the board will be asked to rank and select its choice at an upcoming board workshop (date noted in the meeting record as a future workshop). She estimated the new school will open in August 2026.
The presentation was a committee recommendation; the board did not vote on a final name at the meeting. Board members thanked Green for the work and indicated the naming decision will be finalized at the scheduled workshop.
The naming committee cited school board policy 07/1950 as the guiding policy for the process.
