Sheriff requests hiring resolutions and permission to reapply for VAWA grant

During the meeting the sheriff said he would request a resolution to hire Christian Smith as a full-time corrections officer and Caleb Webster as a part-time corrections officer; to reclassify James Dickens to full-time patrol sergeant; and to provide the chairman authority to sign paperwork reapplying for the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grant the county has held previously.
The sheriff presented the items as requests he would put before the commission for formal action at the next meeting; commissioners did not vote on those items at this meeting.
Several of the personnel and hiring items discussed elsewhere on the agenda were identified as budgeted and routed through the countys personnel processes. The sheriffs request to reapply for the VAWA grant was presented as a reapplication of an existing program; the sheriff did not provide the grant award size at the meeting.
