The Idaho Transportation Department told JFAC that its Division of Motor Vehicles has about 240 authorized full‑time positions and is operating some staff in temporary shared workspaces while increasing online service delivery.
Brooke Dupree said the division’s FY26 request includes $608,200 for replacement items — primarily IT equipment including computers, scanners, switches and printers — recommended by the Office of Information Technology Services. Dupree also noted the division has spent between 68 and 79 percent of estimated expenditures in recent years.
Director Scott Stokes described temporary workstation arrangements at the Chinden campus, saying the DMV “has generic workspaces where they'll spend maybe 2 days at home and 2 days in DMV” and that the department has “systems and metrics where we can track their performance.” He said roughly 50 percent of vehicle transactions are completed centrally online or through the mail, and that some counties have merged offices to provide single locations for driver and vehicle services.
Committee members asked for further detail on longer‑term facility needs and on how software and hardware requests are being funded; the director and analyst said ITD would follow up with more detailed listings of software licenses, ongoing costs and hardware replacement schedules.
