Fire leadership presented the three-bay station design at the Feb. 7 Coffee with the Mayor. The rendering shows a functional neighborhood station built into the hill, with living quarters, covered bays sized for fire apparatus, dedicated storage space, and site work to accommodate the slope from McCulloch.
Chief Pete said the station is designed to house an engine and six firefighters in its initial staffing model and could store additional apparatus in enclosed bays to protect equipment from sun exposure. The design includes direct-capture exhaust systems, separated contamination zones to reduce firefighter exposure to carcinogens, and dedicated storage for equipment.
Council previously approved a preconstruction agreement with Wilming (contractor) and the city has worked with Pearlman (architect) and a construction-manager-at-risk approach to control costs. Chief Pete said the city added escalators to the budget to allow for construction-price fluctuations and plans to hold a Feb. 14 kickoff meeting to refine pricing.

The chief said the station is expected to handle about 1,500 calls per year and to reduce workload pressures on nearby stations.

City and fire staff said the new station is intended to improve response times in that area and better protect property while being positioned to serve the whole city.
Next steps Staff will refine construction pricing during the preconstruction phase, seek council approvals as needed for final contract sums, and proceed with site work and construction bidding. Chief Pete asked residents for continued support, and city staff said they will return to council and the public with schedule and budget updates as they become available.
