CPC awards $1,964.75 to Meadow City Conservation Coalition for trail signage, pollinator garden

The Northampton Community Preservation Committee unanimously approved a $1,964.75 grant Oct. 8 to the Meadow City Conservation Coalition to install permanent tree identification tags, interpretive signage and an approximately 80-square-foot pollinator garden at two local conservation areas.
Luke, a representative of the Meadow City Conservation Coalition, said a community survey and trail mapping had identified demand for permanent tree tags at Terrace Trails and signs and a small demonstration pollinator garden at Montview Conservation Area. "We mapped them," Luke said, and described having volunteers already prepared the site and having worked with a local arborist to identify trees.
Howard Moore and Fred (board members) emphasized that both sites get regular pedestrian use and that the improvements would signal active stewardship of early-successional meadow habitat and forested trails. Luke said the pollinator garden would be used to signal that the meadow is a managed habitat rather than an abandoned field.
Martha moved that the committee fund the Meadow City Conservation Coalition request for $1,964.75; Julia seconded. Sarah conducted the roll-call; all members voted yes.
The grant will fund materials and signage; the group said volunteers will install the tags and garden and that the improvements are intended to aid public understanding of local habitat management and to support visitor experience.
