Supervisors approve revisions to county farm lease terms for bidders; staff to set final rent after bids

Jackson County supervisors approved revisions to the terms of the county farm lease on Oct. 21 to allow prospective bidders to see lease conditions before submitting bids. The board removed the rental dollar amount from the public terms so the amount can be set after bids are opened.
County staff also prepared an authorization letter for the U.S. Farm Service Agency (FSA) to release cropland and base yield information and farm maps to prospective bidders. Supervisors said they will finalize the lease with the selected bidder and sign the formal lease after the November 18 bid opening, when the lease dollar amount is known.
Board members approved the text revisions as discussed, including clarifications about notice of termination being sent to the primary lease signer (so the county does not need to notify every sublessee). The board’s action at the Oct. 21 meeting sets the terms for bidders; it does not execute a final lease.
Other county updates included progress on temporary operations at the recycling building, where staff installed concrete piers and temporary plywood walls and are awaiting welded trailer doors and DNR temporary-operation permits. County staff said the temporary facility will be limited to small trailers and passenger vehicles until full construction begins, expected after January.
