Scott County parks earn CAPRA accreditation; court appoints Todd Oser to parks board and approves Great Crossing playground work

Scott County Parks & Recreation has received accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) through the National Recreation and Park Association, county officials told fiscal court. Parks director Drew said the accreditation places the county in the top 2% of agencies nationwide; he said only 231 of roughly 10,000 agencies are accredited and Scott County is the only newly accredited local government in Kentucky this year other than larger jurisdictions and a military installation.
The court also voted to fill an unexpired Parks and Recreation Board term. A magistrate moved to appoint Todd Oser to the unexpired term of Temple Jewett; the court adopted the appointment by voice vote.
Drew briefed the court on planned park improvements. JR and crews prepared the site at Great Crossing Park for new playground equipment, which staff said will be installed starting in October. Drew said the work will include drainage, a flat footprint for equipment, new mulch, a safety fence and plantings; he recommended a sidewalk and guardrails in a future budget to improve access.
Court members praised the parks staff for the accreditation and said they will present a joint proclamation recognizing the achievement at a future meeting.
