Council defers decision on partial street vacation at 1101 West 400 South after hearing

Neighbor testimony supporting rehabilitation of the boarded property emphasized that the site has been blighted and that allowing a 5‑foot addition to the property would enable rebuilding. Petitioner Eric Sansom described a three‑year effort to acquire and revitalize the property and said the requested vacation would allow construction of a habitable home. Ricardo Mejias, vice president of the Poplar Grove Community Council, also urged approval, saying the property is across from a school and a youth center and its rehabilitation would be an improvement.
Councilmember Pui moved to close the public hearing and defer action to the next council meeting; Councilmember Dugan seconded. The motion passed unanimously with Councilmember Young absent. Councilmembers commented that the petition highlights broader R‑1 zoning questions the council is reviewing citywide and encouraged the petitioner to participate in that process.
