Council approves engineering contracts, change orders and final contract adjustment

Solon City Council approved three professional services/engineering ordinances and closed out a roadway repair contract at its Oct. 6 meeting, authorizing work and final payments on several public-works projects.
At its Oct. 6 meeting the Solon City Council approved a series of public-works ordinances authorizing engineering services, contract change orders and a final contract closeout.
Ordinance No. 2025-191 accepted the proposal of Burgess & Niple (BNN) for professional engineering design services for the Birch Circle and Ridge Lane drainage study under the city's general engineering services contract. The ordinance allows the engineering department and mayor to proceed with the study with BNN in an amount not to exceed $33,000.
Ordinance No. 2025-192 accepted a BNN proposal for professional engineering design services for the Stonebridge Court overflow storm sewer project and authorized preparation of plans and specifications in an amount not to exceed $37,500.
Ordinance No. 2025-193 approved the final contract adjustment with Trimore Corporation for the 2024 annual emergency and miscellaneous roadway repair program (contract 2024-12) and closed out the contract in the amount of $314,192.61, and adjusted the completion date to Feb. 25, 2025, as read into the record.
Ordinance No. 2025-194 approved change order No. 2 to the contract with Katz Construction for the 2025 annual concrete repair program (contract 2025-03) in the amount of $30,625 and was declared an emergency.
All four items were included in the consent portion of the agenda and were approved under suspension of rules. Councilmember Palunas moved to approve the consent agenda under suspension; Councilmember Khan seconded. The roll-call vote recorded "Yes" from all members, and the ordinances were given final passage.
Council members and staff noted prior discussion in committee and thanked the public-works and engineering departments for managing the projects and bids. The ordinances authorize staff to proceed with studies and implement change orders but additional procurement steps, specifications and construction scheduling will follow established engineering department procedures.
