Summary
Council and staff described a new pocket park ribbon cutting on Beaver Valley Road, a riparian buffer tree-planting at Longmeadow Preserve run by CRC, ongoing Beaver Valley restoration work, Carter Way streambank restoration and appraisal work for the Octoraro Trail property agreements.
Parks, open-space and trails updates were part of the Oct. 7 Concord Township Council meeting, with staff reporting a new pocket park opening, scheduled tree plantings and progress on trail property work.
"This evening, we hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening of our new pocket park ... over on Beaver Valley Road," said John Crossan, who urged residents to visit the new site. Crossan also noted a riparian buffer tree-planting scheduled at Longmeadow Preserve on Temple Road and the township’s upcoming Fall Into the Arts Festival.
Crossan and other staff said restoration work at Beaver Valley Park included preserving an old home foundation and vegetation management. Staff also reported that the Carter Way streambank-restoration project will resume in October and that the township is in the appraisal phase for the Octoraro Trail, contracting with an appraiser and a reviewer and continuing negotiations with property owners on agreements for trail connections.
Council authorized the township manager to execute an agreement with the Chester Ridley Crum Watersheds Association for planting and maintaining 65 native trees and shrubs along Temple Road as a riparian buffer; that authorization was approved by council vote during the meeting.
Public events and programs noted included pickleball clinics, a tree giveaway and a harvest festival. Staff said several open-space and capital projects remain in various stages of completion and that some park projects are grant-funded.
