Spokane County proclaims Nov. 4–11, 2025, Operation Greenlight for Veterans Week

The Spokane County Board of County Commissioners unanimously adopted a proclamation on Oct. 21 declaring Nov. 4–11, 2025, as Operation Greenlight for Veterans Week in Spokane County.

A commissioner read the proclamation into the record, citing the work of veterans organizations and the National Association of Counties’ encouragement for counties to participate. The proclamation encourages residents and businesses to display a green light in a window from Nov. 4 through Nov. 11 to honor veterans and those transitioning from military service.

Chris Dorches, retired Air Force first sergeant and manager of the Spokane County Regional Veterans Service Center, spoke after the board’s vote. “Green is the color of hope, renewal, and well-being,” Dorches said, adding that the campaign aims “to honor our veterans and to raise awareness about the unique challenges they face while also highlighting the resources available to them at the county, state, and federal levels.”

Dorches noted this was the third consecutive year Spokane County adopted the proclamation and thanked county staff and the veterans services team for supporting local veterans. The manager encouraged “all Spokane County residents and businesses to participate by changing their porch lights to green during the week of November 4 through the eleventh.”

The board voted to approve the proclamation by voice vote with unanimous support. The meeting record shows the chair invited Dorches and the veterans services team to the front for photographs following the vote.

The proclamation references support channels available through county, state and federal veterans’ services but does not include new county funding or a specific program change.
