Board approves new stadium video board; district cites CTE, replay and revenue potential

The Kilgore ISD board approved purchase and installation of a new stadium video board and related equipment, a measure presenters said will expand the district’s audiovisual curriculum, provide instant replay capabilities and offer new sponsorship revenue opportunities.
Coach Wood, the district’s athletic director, presented a proposal for a new LED video board at the stadium and matching controls for the new high-school gym. He said the proposed stadium board will be roughly 43% larger than the existing unit and will enable instant replays, longer video segments and more flexible advertising.
"The new video board will be 43% larger," Coach Wood said, adding that the current system lacks replay capabilities. He and board members said CTE students could operate cameras, replays and board controls and that the program could become a college or career pathway.
Board discussion covered warranty, outdoor exposure and fundraising. Presenters said NEFCO (vendor) supports service and repairs and that the district’s historical advertising revenue — about $50,000 per year from the older static scoreboard program — could grow by offering shorter, video-based sponsorships and more inventory.
A motion to approve the purchase and installation (purchase/installation total presented during the meeting as approximately $347,900) passed on a voice vote, 6–0 (motion by Mr. Henson; second by Ms. Harrington). Board members said the board and coaching staff will return with an advertising and sponsorship plan to monetize the board and to provide student training opportunities.
The district also said it will install matching video controls in the new high-school gym so trained students can work either location with the same equipment and software.
