Canyon Lake highlights town-center investments, community events and nonprofit partnerships

City of Canyon Lake officials described a package of local economic and community investments intended to support small businesses and resident engagement in the town center.
City Manager Aaron Brown said the city is using one-time funds such as ARPA to cover renovations of city hall and the council chamber so that ongoing operating costs are not added to the general fund. He also described a city program called the Shop Canyon Lake locals card to promote discounts at town-center businesses and a newly acquired digital marquee that officials said will spotlight local commerce and events.
Mayor Mark Terry and council members said the city is buying and improving storefronts in the town center to set standards, support tenant improvements and encourage long-term occupancy. "Owning and improving these storefronts lets us set clear standards, support tenant improvements, and keep the center active and resilient," Terry said.
Officials announced community events and volunteer outcomes: the city posted a second annual Pumpkin Bash scheduled Thursday, Oct. 23, from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Canyon Lake Town Center; and officials said last year's turkey drive collected more than 120 turkeys and 60 bags of canned goods, with blankets donated to Bridal Friends of the Valley to help pets in need.
Council member Josh Steber highlighted Michelle's Place, which he said already serves Canyon Lake residents; officials noted a 30-year contract with the organization to deliver free resources to people affected by cancer in the region. "Michelle's Place is embedded into this community... it offers free resources that the cancer community needs," Steber said.
City leaders asked residents to use town-center services as a way to keep dollars local and support neighborhood jobs. They did not provide a full capital or operating cost breakdown for the town-center purchases or the long-term budget implications of storefront ownership at the State of the City event.
