Nogales council budgets $150,000 for Trinidad Park conversion; procurement underway

The City of Nogales allocated $150,000 in its budget for improvements to a vacant lot on Trinidad Street to create a new neighborhood park, staff told the council on Oct. 1.
Jessica (staff) briefed the council that the city has one bid from Anderson Construction of Tucson and is waiting on two additional quotes. Staff described planned features that could include turf, a small play area, and possibly a playground structure. The site is currently a parking lot and has been under city ownership for many years, council members said.
Councilman Bernia and other members emphasized procurement rules and said that any unspent balance would be moved to other park projects. Staff confirmed the city followed procurement procedures and will return to council with design images and status updates as the process continues.
Council members thanked parks and recreation staff and flagged ongoing audits and procurement compliance as the city manages construction and contracting for the project. No final contract award was made at this meeting; staff will return with additional quotes and imagery for council review.
