Planning commission approves storage tanks to reclaim process water at Novanessis site

The City of West Allis Planning Commission approved a site amendment to allow installation of reclaimed-water storage tanks at the Novanessis production facility, with work expected to start in spring and finish by summer the following year.
City staff explained the tanks will capture and reuse water that the company currently uses for cooling in manufacturing processes, reducing water returned to the city stormwater system and lowering overall consumption. Staff said the tanks will be installed on the northwest side of the building, will be visible from 90th Street in places but will be screened by an existing sound wall and landscaping, and will be roughly the same height as adjacent building elements — “about 40-ish feet tall,” staff said.
Staff said the site is zoned I-1 (light industrial) and that the tanks and associated equipment are permitted in that district. The applicant, represented at the meeting, described the tanks as part of a water-reuse effort that is intended to benefit both the company and municipal infrastructure.
Motion and outcome: A commissioner moved to approve the site amendment; the motion was seconded and the commission voted in favor.
What’s next: Construction is planned to begin next spring with a hoped-for completion by summer; staff and applicant will continue implementation under standard permitting and inspection.
