Summary
The Monroeville Planning Commission on Oct. 15 granted conditional use approval to the Shabbat Jewish Center of Monroeville to operate a place of worship at 2520 Maasai Boulevard; commissioners found parking adequate and recorded no public opposition.
The Monroeville Planning Commission on Oct. 15 approved a conditional use permit allowing the Shabbat Jewish Center of Monroeville to relocate to 2520 Maasai Boulevard in the Boulevard zoning district.
Staff presented the application after noting the synagogue’s rabbi was observing a Jewish holiday and had asked staff to present. Planning staff said the congregation seeks to move from a small building near AAA on Route 48 to a larger quarter of an existing four-tenant building on Maasai Boulevard, near Aroma Joe’s and Dollar General.
Staff said the proposed tenant space is one quarter of a divided building and that adequate parking was available. The staff presentation noted that the synagogue is an existing place of worship relocating to a larger space because the congregation has grown. The staff report and the transcript recorded no resident comments in favor or opposed.
A commissioner moved to approve the conditional use application (agenda item 25-7-c); another commissioner seconded and the motion passed by voice vote. The transcript records the applicant representation offering thanks; "Thank you," Rabbi Mindy said.
The approval allows the Shabbat Jewish Center to occupy the space subject to any standard building, fire and occupancy permits and to any conditions the planning commission or municipal council may impose. Staff said no comments from residents were filed and that parking was adequate for the proposed use.
