Laguna Woods proclaims November 2025 as Nurse Practitioner Week

The Laguna Woods City Council on Oct. 15 proclaimed November 2025 as Nurse Practitioner Week in recognition of nurse practitioners' role in delivering frontline health care.
Councilmember Connors agendized the proclamation; Yoli read the text, which noted nurse practitioners’ advanced clinical education and training and cited nationwide and California practitioner counts included in the proclamation text. Several local practitioners and residents spoke in support. A retired nurse practitioner who attended emphasized that nurse practitioners “are trained as nurses” with advanced practice that expands their scope but does not make them physicians; another commenter, Cynthia Agendiz, contrasted doctors and nurses with the remark, “doctors treat illnesses and nurses treat patients.”
Councilmembers and attendees praised local nurse practitioners’ work in clinics, urgent care and rehabilitation settings and moved and seconded the proclamation. The council approved the proclamation by unanimous voice vote.
