Cibolo Council appoints 20-member Youth Council; members to represent grades 7–12

The Cibolo City Council unanimously approved the appointment of 20 applicants to the Cibolo Youth Council and discussed possible process adjustments to improve review before swearing-in.
Councilwoman Norma Sanchez Stevens moved to appoint all applicants who had applied; the motion was seconded and passed 7-0. City staff told council that seven applicants were returning members and that the group includes students in grades 7–12. Several council members said future application windows should close earlier—Councilwoman Katie Cunningham suggested a deadline of Aug. 15 for applications so appointments can be scheduled on even-numbered months.
Council members also debated whether interviews should be required for youth-council positions. Some members said a blanket approval was appropriate because many students are young and their schedules (school, sports, parental rides) make in-person interviews impractical; other members said council should preserve appointment responsibilities and consider interviews where feasible.
Staff will provide the list of appointed students and work with the youth-council organizer to schedule orientation and regular reporting to council.
