Bethel Park updates: PTO events, LEAD days, college and career fair and student activities

The Bethel Park School District board heard a series of monthly program reports on Oct. 20 covering student government, PTOs, secondary highlights and curricular enrichment activities.
Student-government representative Caleb Bush said the SGA is planning fall and Halloween activities including a spirit week, a morning candy distribution on Halloween and a costume contest. PTO representatives reported school‑level activities: IMS will hold Halloween lunch-period celebrations Oct. 31 and a craft fair; elementary PTOs reported book fairs, trunk-or-treat events, hayrides, parades, fundraisers and upcoming holiday activities. William Penn, Franklin, Lincoln, Memorial, Penn and Bethel Park Elementary PTOs and volunteers were all mentioned in the summary of events and fundraising efforts.
The board received a report on Steel Center programming and renovation updates, including open-house dates and movement of vocational programs (collision repair, welding, culinary). Secondary curriculum updates highlighted learning displays at Independence Middle School and the expansion of LEAD (Learning Enrichment Activity Days) at both the middle and high school. Staff said LEAD at IMS will occur quarterly and that the high school continues monthly sessions, including food‑service demonstrations by Director Brandon Agastinelli.
Administrators reported that Bethel Park High School hosted a college and career fair with more than 160 colleges, trade schools and military representatives and that organizers tracked attendance through an app. The event drew participation from more than 2,000 students and family members across the district; counselors used proceeds from the event to fund an annual scholarship program of $500 per participating school.
The district announced a community flu clinic with Spartan Pharmacy for Nov. 4, open to community members ages 5 and older (insurance billed; $40 for uninsured). The high school’s homecoming results and the girls tennis team’s advancement to state semifinals were also reported.
