Montgomery ISD staff and project partners reported progress on the district's 2022 bond work at the Oct. 21 meeting, describing completed Career and Technical Education (CTE) spaces in regular use, stadium upgrades, renovations to older campuses and a new transportation fuel center.
Presenters walked trustees through highlights from the CTE "Den," where students are now training in veterinary technology, cosmetology, automotive, welding, construction and culinary programs. Trustees and staff described students using donated equipment and producing tangible work products; one staff presenter said students were "excited to have everything right here" after previously traveling between rooms to access tools and equipment.
Renovations at Montgomery High School include paint, tile and restroom work, new graphics and upgraded AV, and staff reported furniture and acoustic improvements at several elementary schools (the triplets and others) along with new library shelving and lighting. The district also opened a new transportation fuel center, featuring bus wash capabilities and improved parking that staff said reduced mud and trip hazards for drivers.
Stadium upgrades drew community attention: new turf, expanded bleachers and a renovated field house were cited by coaches in the presentation as enhancing the facility and increasing the district's capacity to host playoff events.
Board members and staff credited planning partner Huckabee and construction partner Stewart Builders for helping the district deliver projects on time and under budget in many areas; trustees noted the district had passed all three bond propositions in 2022 and expressed satisfaction that promised items have been delivered or are near substantial completion.
Staff said remaining work includes furniture packages for selected campuses, band instrument procurement, mechanical project documentation and selected playground and mechanical upgrades in future work packages. Officials said savings and interest earnings now allow the district to consider additional comparability and furniture investments.
