Trustees approve library list, amend innovation plan and authorize facility purchases

The amendments respond to new statutory changes; among the adjustments, the district removed an earlier DOI exception that would have applied to student-discipline provisions under Chapter 37 and clarified that prekindergarten positions are not eligible for certain DOI certification exceptions. The board approved the DOI amendment by the required two-thirds affirmative vote, as noted by staff during the presentation.
Two purchases over $50,000 were approved. The board authorized the purchase of three replacement chillers for Montgomery High School to complete a phased mechanical replacement project; staff told trustees the recommended vendor was selected through cooperative purchasing and that the lead time is about 13 to 16 weeks with a 10-year warranty on the units. The board also approved buying additional audiovisual and streaming equipment for planned use at the CTE (career and technical education) center to support future board meetings in that space; staff said the AV vendor is the same firm that installed the CTE's initial AV system and that microphones are the longest-lead components.
