Park and Recreation commission seeks volunteers for Sept. 27 fun run; event under budget but short on helpers

“Right now, I have 17 volunteers who have signed up online plus the seven Park and Rec people,” McDaniel said, adding that the commission needs a minimum of 40 volunteers to run the event successfully. She asked council members, residents and students seeking service hours to sign up.
McDaniel provided a budget update: the event budget was $3,600, and expenses to date are $3,054, leaving a balance of $546.
Councilmember Joel (first name given in the transcript only) asked whether the commission had reached out to additional local groups for volunteers; McDaniel said she had contacted ROTC and other organizations and noted that some volunteers might show up without signing up online.
No formal council action on the event was recorded during the public‑comment period. The commission’s request was informational and intended to attract volunteers and community support ahead of the Sept. 27 date.
