Several parents and community members addressed the board regarding alleged misconduct by members of the Bethel Park High School girls soccer coaching staff and requested formal investigations and interim safety measures.
Eric Lancey told the board that during the 2025 soccer season members of the girls team experienced emotional mistreatment, inappropriate innuendo, private messages to players without parental supervision, and retaliation by coaching staff. Lancey said three underage players first sought help from the coaching staff and later from the athletic department; he said an internal investigation lasting “less than 48 hours” concluded that players must either “endure what the coaching staff delivers or leave the team.” He said that an assistant principal would monitor practices and games “when available” but would not accompany the team during transport, lettering or award recognition.
Rob Mooney, a parent, described reduced playing time and ostracism for team captains and said the situation caused his daughter anxiety, disrupted sleep and difficulty focusing at school. Mooney asked the district for a set of actions including immediate suspension of the coach pending a full and impartial investigation, a Title IX investigation, review of athletic department leadership and oversight and confirmation that staff had completed Title IX training and followed required reporting procedures. He also requested a written response outlining specific steps the district would take to ensure accountability, restitution for affected athletes including reinstating recognition the players lost, and protection against retaliation.
A board member responded that the board had received emails and direct reports from parents earlier and said the board was aware of the complaints. The board member said the board would be instructing administrative staff to “take the furthest action they possibly can” to pursue what the board determines is appropriate, though no formal personnel action or suspension was recorded in the meeting minutes.
These were public comments and the board did not announce a formal, public outcome at the meeting; parents explicitly requested an immediate suspension pending investigation and a Title IX inquiry.
