Brookshire authorizes multiple public‑works contracts, RFPs and inspections for drainage, stormwater and road repairs

At its Oct. 16 meeting the Brookshire City Council approved several public‑works and engineering procurement actions aimed at drainage, road and facility maintenance.
Key approvals and authorizations included: - A $6,000 contract award to Murph Turf for repair of the City Hall sprinkler and irrigation system (staff presented three bids of $6,000, $14,400 and $24,159 and recommended the lowest bid). - Approval of additional services to Bureau Veritas to include right‑of‑way and culvert inspections and inspection of work in city easements; staff said Bureau Veritas will inspect EZ Fiber permit work and culverts to ensure compliance. - Authorization to develop an RFP for a maintenance contract to clean and reshape ditches (maintenance contract) and a separate RFP for cleaning underground curb and gutter storm drains; staff described years of accumulated sediment and clogged drains identified during tests next to City Hall. - Authorization to develop an RFQ for a second engineering firm to address project backlogs and new development demand. - Authorization for LJA to create a bid package to complete remaining road repairs and to work with the Brookshire Drainage District (BKDD) and LJA to perform an engineering analysis of the 20‑foot drainage utility easement behind the Bridal Brook subdivision to address localized flooding.
Staff said the drainage work is needed to restore flow in culverts and ditches that have not been cleaned in decades in some areas. Council voted on each item by voice and approved the requested solicitations and contracts. Staff will return with draft RFP/RFQ documents and recommended contracts for council approval.
