Brookshire instructs attorney to send guidance on debris and trash pickup after widespread material placed in city easements

The Brookshire City Council authorized staff Oct. 16 to direct the city attorney to draft a public notice and to distribute Texas Pride’s trash‑pickup guidelines after staff reported extensive debris in city easements and ditches.

Staff said residents and some volunteer groups had placed large amounts of tree limbs, tires and other bulky items in city easements and ditches that Texas Pride—Brookshire’s trash contractor—cannot pick up unless items are prepared according to the contractor’s rules. Staff said Texas Pride will pick up bundled and cut tree limbs when they are prepared correctly, and staff proposed sending a letter to residents explaining how to place debris so it can be collected. The proposed letter would include the contractor’s guidelines and ask residents to bundle and cut limbs properly; staff also proposed distributing the letter via the city’s water billing insert and following up with a code‑enforcement warning if the problem persists.

Council approved the proposed action by voice vote. Staff said Public Works had already removed some of the larger piles and that the letter and billing insert would follow. If residents continue to place debris improperly, staff said code enforcement would issue warnings and pursue further action.
