Administration staff and Youth & Family division staff told council the $350,000 request would sustain current service levels for the remainder of the fiscal year, keep summer programming options intact (though some scaling was possible without the funds), and provide short-term runway while staff pursue replacement grants and fundraising. Staff said the grant had a three-year structure and that the city will seek fundraising and grant opportunities to cover future fiscal years.
Council members cited the program’s role in youth services and community stability and urged the administration to incorporate the longer-term funding question into FY27 budget planning. Several council members signaled immediate support at the work session; staff noted the legislative intent and noncore-funding discussions underway for FY27 and offered the division’s draft strategic plan and other budget materials to guide longer-term decisions.
No final appropriation was adopted at the work session; the request was presented as part of budget amendment #2 and will be considered via the city’s formal budget-amendment and public-hearing process.
