Board committee approves Partnership for Children pre‑K contract amendment through 2027

The student support services committee approved Amendment No. 1 to the district’s contract with the Partnership for Children of Cumberland County on Oct. 7, extending the contract cycle to 2027 and documenting funding and enrollment for the 2025–26 pre‑K program.
Sean Gross, the district’s pre‑K coordinator, told the committee the Partnership for Children serves as the contract administrator for North Carolina Pre‑K in Cumberland County and the district provides services in 29 of its 46 pre‑K classrooms. The Partnership provides supplemental funding of $496 per child per month, Gross said, and the district submits monthly attendance to receive payments.
Gross said two changes from the prior cycle are that the district is allotted funding for 433 students this year (one fewer student than last year) and that the Division of Child Development and Early Education allows a three‑year contract cycle for administrators instead of a two‑year cycle; the amendment adds the additional year to the contract.
The committee approved the amendment by motion and second. Staff said the Partnership determines student eligibility and pays the district monthly.
