Resident group’s spokesman urges Naples mayor to resign amid lawsuit and criticism

Nash said the group had tried to work within city processes but “our requests for communication have largely been ignored by your office and we’ve reached the tipping point.” He said a group of citizens had filed “a significant lawsuit against the city’s egregious regulatory overreach,” and that the city was spending taxpayer money to defend both sides of the dispute.
Nash also spoke about the mayor’s recent DUI case, saying delays in the mayor’s trial—“you've used your influence and position to delay your trial over 6 times,” he said—showed a lack of accountability. “Mayor Heitman, it’s time for you to save the taxpayers time and money and resign,” Nash said.
The remarks were delivered during the public comment portion of the workshop; council did not take action on the request during the meeting. The workshop proceeded to a full-day agenda on the city’s resiliency plan and related items.
