The board recognized a seventh consecutive Meritorious Budget Award and received an August financial update showing a revenue shortfall year to date and an unassigned fund balance that covers about 0.9 months of expenditures, staff said.
The Paulding County School Board on Oct. 7 recognized the district’s seventh consecutive Meritorious Budget Award from the Association of School Business Officials for its fiscal budgeting and transparency.
Anna Durham, the district chief financial officer, presented the August financial update. Durham said year‑to‑date revenue is running about 5.6% below budget, comparable to the prior year at this point, and year‑to‑date expenditures are about 0.6% under budget. She said the district’s unassigned fund balance could support about 0.9 months of fiscal‑year 2026 budgeted expenditures and that the district expects property tax receipts to arrive later in the fiscal cycle.
Board members asked how close the district came to needing short‑term borrowing. Durham said staff are monitoring cash flow and expect to meet obligations until property tax revenues are received. The superintendent added congratulations to the finance team for the award and the published monthly update that is attached to the meeting agenda and available on the district website.
Amber Thesma, director of financial planning and analysis, was mentioned by the superintendent as a key member of the business services team; the superintendent noted she was not present because she was at home with a newborn.
