Special-education parent resource fair drew 45 community organizations, district says

Dr. Heather White told the Paulding County School System board on Sept. 16 that PB Rich Middle School recently hosted an annual parent resource fair for special-education families and students with disabilities. The fair brought together 45 community organizations offering therapeutic services, post-secondary supports, employment resources and government agency programs.
Yanesha Lopez, the district parent mentor, organized the event, White said. Participating organizations included the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, which provided information on Project Lifesaver, West Ridge Church’s special needs ministry, and the Lions Club, which provided free vision screenings.
White said the fair aimed to connect families of students with disabilities to community resources available while they are in school and to help them learn about services that may be available after graduation.
Why it matters: building relationships between schools and community organizations can expand services and supports for students with disabilities and their families, and connect them to transition and post-secondary resources.
White told the board the event had a strong turnout and thanked partners for their participation.
