Board to hold on‑site familiarization and adopt bimonthly meeting cadence; staff to support events

The Cleveland Airport Advisory Board agreed Sept. 4 to organize on‑site familiarization and training events for board members, interested residents and tenants, and to move to a bimonthly meeting schedule.

Eddie Lowry, who requested the idea, said some board members and city representatives are unfamiliar with airport facilities and operations and would benefit from a hands‑on workshop to view fuel systems, the AWOS, generators and hangar infrastructure. The board discussed holding a Saturday workshop or an on‑site event posted as a workshop under the Open Meetings Act; staff explained such events must be posted 72 hours in advance with an agenda.

Eric said he has already invited several people to tour the airport during normal working hours and is willing to provide ad‑hoc tours; the board asked him to draft a formal workshop agenda and a posted event for broader participation. Members also discussed upcoming airport events and logistics — porta‑potties, crowd size, and FAA/TxDOT approvals — and asked staff to assist with event planning.

On meeting frequency, members reviewed recent meeting cadence history and agreed bimonthly meetings are appropriate for the current workload; the board noted it will call special meetings if urgent matters arise. The board also discussed a tenant newsletter and additional agenda‑posting practices (posting agendas at the FBO and emailing tenants) to improve communication.

Separately, staff reported the agricultural‑land RFP offsite (across FM 787) has been awarded to P2P Cattle and contracts are being finalized; this property is not on airport property.
