Principals told the board they want to reduce repeat office referrals among students and to continue the district’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework and the Character Strong social‑emotional learning curriculum.
Presenters said the district’s baseline was 7.5% of the population having three or more trips to the office last year and proposed lowering that level to 5.5%. The principals described multiple strategies to reach that goal, including reteaching behavioral expectations after winter break, morning office hours, and targeted small‑group interventions.
Board members asked about the reliability and interpretation of social‑emotional screeners completed by students. One board member questioned whether younger students understand the questions and how those responses are weighted; the principal responded that staff screeners and other measures are used in addition to student self‑reports.
Principals said the district’s social worker participates in monitoring and that some assessments are being provided in read‑aloud formats where needed. The presenters framed the goals as classroom‑centered with additional tier‑2 and tier‑3 supports for students who require them.
No formal vote was recorded on SEL or disciplinary targets during the continuation meeting.
