Staff member Solis described the project as a designed detention basin on Coyote Wash that will slow runoff and release water more slowly back into the wash. "It can not only provide us a detention system and slow the water down as far as flood plain purposes, but it also can help as far as recharge because now that water that's in the detention basin is coming out at a super slow rate," Solis said. He added the slower, trickling outflow is intended to increase infiltration into the sand-bottom channel once flood flows recede.
Gomez moved approval of "contract 26-05ENG-01 with Rommel Construction Inc. for the grant funded construction of the Bella Vista Detention Basin in the amount of $5,518,855 plus a 5% construction contingency." The board then voted "aye" three times and the motion passed 3-0.
