Hudson board approves consent agenda, new high‑school courses and district recognition program

HUDSON, Wis. — In addition to lengthy facility planning discussion, the Hudson School District Board on Tuesday approved routine business and several district proposals, including new high‑school course offerings and a district recognition program.
The board approved the consent agenda and authorized the chief financial and operations officer to pay bills in the amount of $1,086,464.99. The motion to approve the consent items and authorize payment was made by board member Megan and seconded by Brian; the consent agenda passed by voice vote.
The board also approved the September 8 regular meeting minutes and the September 29 special meeting minutes by voice vote.
Curriculum approvals: The board approved three high‑school course proposals presented by high‑school staff: Unified Physical Education (a class pairing general education students with special education peers to promote inclusion), Video Production, and HRPN News 2 (advanced broadcasting and production techniques). The motion to approve the courses passed by voice vote. The administration will add the courses to the course catalog and schedules for upcoming terms.
Recognition program: The board approved a new recognition and communications initiative called "Moments That Matter — The Raider Way." The program will solicit quarterly stories from staff, students, parents and volunteers and develop fuller stories to be shared with the board and community. The motion passed by voice vote; communications staff will create submission mechanisms and an editorial schedule.
Earlier in the meeting the board heard a preview of Hudson High School’s fall musical, Seussical, directed by Ryan Delacroix, who described the production and announced show dates. Board members praised the students and staff during recognitions; "I am always just astounded that we have these kids that are so talented," board member Molly said after the preview.
Next steps: Administration will implement the approved courses and the recognition program, and the business office will process payments authorized by the consent agenda. The board continued into long‑term facility planning and ultimately voted to close two elementary schools during the same meeting.
