The Broken Arrow City Council on Oct. 7 approved COMP 23-47, a comprehensive plan amendment to change roughly 7.5 acres at the southwest corner of Kenosha and Oneida from level 4 to level 6. City staff said the change is intended to allow development under frontage standards associated with the commercial heavy zone rather than the commercial general zone.
City Community Development staffer Jose described the request as “a request to change the comprehensive plan from level 4 to level 6” on the site and said the applicant seeks smaller frontage requirements available in the commercial heavy classification. Council discussion noted that comprehensive-plan amendments are larger policy changes than zoning actions and that historically the city keeps comp-plan items on the regular agenda for discussion rather than on consent.
Council moved and seconded approval; the motion was carried in a roll call vote. Staff will record the change in the city planning files and proceed with any associated rezoning or subdivision steps required for development.
