Commission approves Eagle Scout improvements to Canton dog park

Caleb Sorem, a life scout with Troop 60, presented an Eagle Scout project to improve safety and amenities at the Canton dog park. His plan calls for maintenance-free agility equipment (tunnels, ramps, balance beams and hoops), an upgraded waste-disposal station and a water station for pets and owners.
Caleb told the commission he will recruit volunteers from his troop and the community, raise funds through grants and local fundraising, and work with city staff on installation and permitting. He proposed a timeline to begin mid-April and finish by mid-May. Commissioners and staff asked about equipment durability, maintenance responsibilities and whether a waterline and fence repairs are required. Caleb said the equipment is expected to last longer than 10 years and that staff indicated a waterline likely exists from a former house on the site; he said he would coordinate with staff about fence condition.
A motion to approve the Eagle Scout project passed by roll call. Commissioners encouraged Caleb to meet with staff about details, fund-raising and logistics.
