BLW approves agreement with GDOT to include three manhole adjustments on U.S. 41 resurfacing; board recommends city approval

The Board of Lights and Water voted Oct. 6 to authorize the utility to sign an agreement allowing three manhole adjustments to be included in an upcoming Georgia Department of Transportation resurfacing contract on U.S. Highway 41.
Kim (BLW staff), who presented the item, told the board only a small section of the GDOT resurfacing project falls inside the Marietta Water Service Boundary — between Windy Hill and Terrell Mill Road — and that the utility needs about three manholes adjusted in that stretch. "This is regarding the Georgia Department of Transportation Resurfacing Project on U. S. Highway 41," Kim said.
Kim said the manhole adjustments can be included in the GDOT contract for approximately $5,400, with the exact total to be determined once GDOT awards the resurfacing contract. Kevin Moore reviewed the contract and approved it for submission, Kim said, and BLW has the funding available in its project account.
The board first voted to approve BLW’s signature on the contract and then amended the motion to add a recommendation that the City Council also approve the city’s signature because the agreement identifies both BLW and the City. The amendment and the motion as amended both passed 6–0.
Board discussion clarified the affected location and confirmed only three manholes in the city’s service area would need adjustment. The final contract total will be known after GDOT selects a contractor and awards the resurfacing contract; the $5,400 figure is a ballpark estimate.
The board recorded no additional conditions; staff will return with final cost details after GDOT’s contractor selection and contracting process.
