The Eagan City Council on Oct. 7 approved a conditional‑use permit for Coca‑Cola Bottling Company to install three outdoor tanks at its bottling and distribution facility at 2750 Eagandale Boulevard.
City staff said the tanks are a wastewater equalization and chemical‑storage system designed to balance flow and correct pH prior to discharge into the public sewer. Two tanks will store treatment chemicals and one equalization tank will hold wastewater before dosing and release; the tallest tank will be about 27 feet with the others approximately 15 feet tall. The facility’s adjacent building height is about 30 feet. The tanks are proposed within a recessed nook of the building façade with an 8–10 foot ornamental fence for additional screening; staff asked the tanks be painted to match the building.
Staff recommended a condition that Coca‑Cola prepare a planting plan to replace roughly 32 overstory trees that have been removed along the site’s street frontages, many likely lost to emerald ash borer; the plan may be phased. Fire Chief Hugo Searle confirmed the fire department and fire marshal had reviewed the proposal and found that it meets code requirements for spill containment and safety. The advisory planning commission recommended approval and the council adopted the CUP subject to the APC conditions.
Council approved the conditional‑use permit by voice vote; staff will work with the applicant to finalize planting and screening details and ensure any cost‑share sanitation assessments are tracked should they become applicable.
