The Beauregard Parish School Board building and grounds committee on Monday, Oct. 6 received project and maintenance updates covering major capital bids, recent facility setbacks and daily work‑order activity.
Facilities staff told the committee the Dritter High project is out for bid and that the district expects to present bid recommendations to the board in November; an air‑conditioning bid is also expected in November or December. The South Boulevard facility hosted its first home game in the new complex last week and staff said the project is roughly 85% complete.
At Singer Elementary (referred to in the meeting as Singer cafeteria), the committee heard that a seal on a fire‑retardant cartridge in a vent hood ruptured weeks earlier and sprayed the cafeteria work area with suppressant, causing unplanned cleanup and some schedule setbacks. Staff said the contractor is addressing the punch list and that work on the Singer parking lot and restroom extension will continue.
Maryville’s bus ramp project is complete, with the ramp raised one foot, sealed and painted, staff said. Building and grounds staff also reported 353 work orders in the tracking system; 326 had been closed and 27 remained open at the time of the report. Staff described efforts to prioritize and group work orders by school to reduce repeat trips and improve efficiency; one repeatedly troublesome unit was recommended for replacement rather than repeated repairs.
The committee discussed a Pinewood parking proposal (taken up in finance) and sidewalk and ADA access work related to other projects; staff said they will supply quotes and finalize scope so work can proceed. Committee members moved to adjourn after approving the prior meeting minutes and receiving the updates.
