Ada County EMS deputy chief says ambulance defects are being addressed; leadership transition set for Nov. 1

John Blake, deputy chief of operations for Ada County Paramedics, told the Board acting as the Ada County Emergency Medical Services District on Oct. 7 that the service is addressing defects found on recent ambulance deliveries and is working with the manufacturer to resolve the issues.
Blake said a small contingent of staff visited the ambulance manufacturing facility in Ohio at the supplier’s invitation to review production and to follow up on quality issues; he said defects have been identified, the manufacturer has begun corrective steps, and Ada County is reviewing how those issues arose.
Blake also reported on the service’s recent 50th-anniversary celebration, said staff and partners were in attendance, and thanked employees who helped organize the event. He introduced recent new hires and said he appreciated seeing “fresh, eager, enthusiastic faces” join the department.
On leadership, Blake said that although he is acting in the deputy chief role, signature authority as chief is expected to transfer to him Nov. 1 after the current chief vacates the position.
Blake told commissioners he will be away for two weeks and that another chief or designee will provide updates in his absence. Commissioners congratulated him on his upcoming marriage and thanked EMS staff for their work.
