The Woonsocket City CouncilBoard of License Commissioners approved a first-class victualling license for the Garage Restaurant, 102 Rathman Street, by a unanimous 5-0 vote Monday.
The applicant, restaurant owner Christian Cordova, spoke through translator Lydia Morales at the public hearing and thanked the council for the opportunity to open a family restaurant and to introduce different foods and cultures to the city. "Thank you to every people present this this room. My name is Christian Cordova," he said through the translator.
Why it matters: First-class victualling licenses authorize on-premises sales of prepared food and alcoholic beverages under the city's licensing code; local approval is required before the Board of License Commissioners issues a license and the business opens.
Councilmembers made brief comments welcoming the applicant. A council member told Cordova, "your English is fine; I understood almost everything you said," and the mayor added, "If you have any questions or concerns moving forward, please contact City Hall so we can help you establish and maintain your business for years to come." The item was introduced on the board of licensed commissioners docket as 25LC32.
The council recorded the vote on the record: 25LC32 was approved 5-0. The council also noted that a separate transfer application for Super Hibachi Buffet (25LC33) at 401 Clinton Street had been withdrawn earlier in the meeting.
The council did not attach additional conditions to the Garage Restaurant license during the hearing. Cordova thanked the council after the approval and received well-wishes from the mayor and members.
