At its Oct. 7 meeting the Brownsville City Commission approved a consent agenda covering dozens of routine items, awarded vehicle contracts, ratified the Brownsville Beautification Committee bylaws and confirmed several board appointments.
Among votes recorded on the consent agenda: the commission approved awarding a contract to Late a Country Chevrolet, Inc. (cooperative/quotes) for the purchase and delivery of a vehicle for the Department of Health and Wellness and Animal Services in the amount of $63,301 using unused American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) federal funds as budgeted. City staff explained local dealerships are not currently registered with the cooperative purchasing groups used for these purchases but said procurement outreach and training will help local dealers register for future opportunities.
The commission also approved a contract with Silsbee Ford Inc. for three Ford F-150 pickup trucks under a cooperative contract (quote/co-op 355-225-PDD-CP) in the amount of $116,703.75 for the crime scene unit.
The commission adopted Resolution No. 2025-076 establishing bylaws for the Brownsville Beautification Committee (BBC) and ratified the committee’s creation; staff noted the committee will be required to comply with Chapter 38 ethics filings and that members may be reappointed. The meeting included several appointments to the new BBC and other advisory boards; multiple motions to appoint individuals passed by voice vote.
