Madera County board appoints Matt Treiber as county administrative officer

The Madera County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 Tuesday to appoint Matt Treiber as the county's County Administrative Officer effective Oct. 7, 2025.

Shanika Dixon, director of human resources, told the board Treiber emerged from a competitive recruitment and had served most recently as the county's chief of developmental services. “Mr. Treiber has over 20 years of local government experience and has served in multiple capacities,” Dixon said during the meeting.

The board heard a staff clarification of the recommended salary placement before the vote. County counsel read the compensation details into the record: salary range 40, step D at $243,757.44 annually, plus a 20-year longevity payment bringing the total to $268,133.18. Supervisor Rogers moved to appoint Treiber at the salary step recommended by human resources; the motion was seconded and passed on a roll-call vote of 5-0.

Treiber was sworn in at the meeting and gave brief remarks thanking the board, county staff and his family. He told supervisors he has spent most of his professional career in Madera County and said, "I look forward to serving this board and the residents and employees of the county and carrying forth the board's vision and direction." He also acknowledged county employees by name during his remarks.

Public commenters and several supervisors offered congratulations and personal endorsements before the vote. Several supervisors praised Treiber's responsiveness and institutional knowledge; one described him as a leader "who knows how to lead from behind." The board scheduled the oath and short ceremonial remarks immediately after the appointment vote.

No other formal conditions or contingencies were recorded with the appointment beyond the posted effective date and the salary terms announced at the meeting.
