City Council on Oct. 20 approved a lease with Ottawa County for the use of Lot 24, a downtown parking lot off Franklin Avenue, for public parking.
Staff said the action formalizes a memorandum of understanding with Ottawa County that supports anticipated collaborative work related to a prospective downtown hotel. The lot contains roughly 60 spaces, staff said, and the city will operate Lot 24 under its standard overnight-permit program. Ashley, a city staff member, told council the county will be responsible for snow and ice removal and lawn care; the city will handle trash removal, resurfacing and repairs. The parties agreed to split revenue from overnight-permit fees 50/50; staff noted an annual overnight permit costs $120.
Council members praised the intergovernmental collaboration as a solution that benefits downtown parking needs and noted the arrangement uses the citys existing permit framework. The resolution passed by roll-call vote.
