The El Centro City Council took several board appointment actions on Oct. 21, reappointing three incumbents to the Library & Community Service Board and filling one vacancy on the Imperial Valley Housing Authority Board.
Council members voted 4‑0 to reappoint Betty Tucker, Adrian Lawson and Matthew Cowie as voting members to the Library & Community Service Board. Council members said the nominees have a history of volunteerism and community involvement and that the appointments restore membership after procedural pauses to ensure the application process was followed correctly.
Separately, the council considered two candidates for a seat on the Imperial Valley Housing Authority Board. Staff noted incumbent Michael Minnick sought reappointment and Carmela Reese applied for the vacancy. After discussion about bringing fresh perspectives and Reese’s housing‑related experience — including work with former foster youth and the county Continuum of Care — the council appointed Carmela Reese to the Housing Authority Board by a 4‑0 vote. Council members thanked Minnick for his prior service.
All motions were approved unanimously; the appointments are volunteer (unpaid) positions and council members encouraged community engagement with advisory boards.
