Show Low council awards $63,687 asphalt purchase for Sierra Pines paving project

The Show Low City Council voted unanimously Sept. 16 to award the purchase of 575 tons of asphalt concrete for the Sierra Pines paving project, City of Show Low project number 5002692, to Perkins Aggregate Incorporated in an amount not to exceed $63,687.25.
Staff said a request for sealed quotes was mailed Sept. 8 to three local companies; Perkins Aggregate was the only firm to submit a sealed quote. Staff reported the other companies declined to bid because their asphalt plants were operating from more distant locations and shipping from those plants would be cost-prohibitive.
City staff presented the bid details during the meeting and recommended awarding the purchase to Perkins Aggregate. City presenter Austin said, "We're getting about a $109 a ton right now." The council approved the motion and the vice mayor seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The contract award covers only the asphalt concrete purchase for the Sierra Pines paving work; other project costs such as hauling, placement, and striping were discussed separately by staff and are subject to additional procurement steps and construction scheduling. Council and staff indicated they will proceed with issuing the purchase order and coordinating delivery with the contractor.
