Board staff told members that Jeff Barajas had removed himself from the board, leaving the panel with three primary members and one alternate. Supervisor Rogers was identified as seeking a replacement, and staff recommended members decide primaries and alternates and then nominate chair and vice-chair at a later meeting.
"Jeff Barajas has, has, removed himself. So we're down to 4 board members, 3 members, and 1 alternate currently," a staff member said while reviewing the reorganization history in the packet. Staff asked that members e-mail their preferences for primary/alternate and for chair or pro tem to avoid a serial meeting of members communicating collectively; staff said they would present those individual communications at the Dec. 4 meeting for a formal vote.
A motion to continue the reorganization item to the Dec. 4 meeting passed by a recorded vote of 3-0. The board did not finalize any seat assignments at the Oct. 2 meeting.
Staff noted a minor calendar-typing discrepancy while confirming the continuation date: the 2026 calendar packet shows Dec. 3 for the year ahead, but staff confirmed the board's upcoming meeting will be Dec. 4, 2025 at 9 a.m.
The item will return on the Dec. 4 agenda for a formal decision on primaries, alternates and chair assignments.
