Madera County Assessment Appeal Board approves consent calendar and adopts proposed 2026 meeting schedule

The Madera County Assessment Appeal Board on Oct. 2 approved its consent calendar and adopted a proposed 2026 meeting schedule, voting 3-0 on each measure.
The approved schedule, presented in the meeting packet, lists the following 2026 dates as active: Feb. 5, March 5, April 2, May 7 (left on the calendar but staff said they will try not to schedule hearings that day), Aug. 6, Sept. 3, Oct. 1, Nov. 5 and Dec. 3. The calendar shows Jan. 8 as canceled and indicates June 4 and July 2 are crossed out.
"The January 8 is canceled. We have February 5, March 5, April 2, May 7 are all active," a board member read from the packet during the discussion. Staff clarified members may ask to add or remove dates and that the May 7 date is being kept as a placeholder because it falls in the county's roll turn; staff said the board could cancel it later if needed.
Board members moved and approved the consent calendar and the calendar item during the meeting. The consent calendar motion was moved by Jerilyn Bamsu and seconded by Bob Rowe; the board recorded the vote as approved, 3-0. The separate motion to adopt the proposed 2026 meeting calendar was moved and approved with a 3-0 vote.
Staff and members also discussed a minor discrepancy between the packet and the board's next meeting date: the packet shows Dec. 3 for the 2026 calendar, while staff confirmed the board's next meeting on the public schedule is Dec. 4, 2025 at 9 a.m.
The board did not discuss any changes to hearing procedures in connection with the calendar approval. The calendar item was presented as an action to set meeting dates for appeals hearings and routine board business for 2026.
