Redondo Beach Unified School District board member offers liaison support; commission receives presentation

Raymer Flynn, a member of the Redondo Beach Unified School District Board of Education, introduced herself to the Youth Commission as the district liaison and invited commissioners to contact the school board or superintendent when matters overlap with school jurisdiction. She encouraged commissioners to attend board meetings and use the school district’s communication channels to inform students about the commission’s work.

Flynn said the board’s role is to set policy and implement it at the district level and that commissioners representing youth should bring school-related items to the district when appropriate. "I proudly serve on the Redondo Beach Unified School District School Board," she said, and added the district "is there to help you and to serve you."

Flynn invited commissioners to reach her via the address she provided in the meeting transcript and said she would try to provide periodic updates to the commission about school-district activities relevant to teens. After public comment and discussion, the commission moved to receive and file the presentation; the motion passed on a voice vote with no opposition recorded in the transcript.

Flynn also suggested commissioners consider reporting to the district’s board (meetings are generally held on the second and fourth Tuesdays) so the board is aware of the commission’s activities and to help expand outreach to students.

The presentation was received and filed; commissioners were encouraged to coordinate with both the city and the school district on joint youth-focused efforts moving forward.
